Meal Plans
Carbohydrates are broken down by the body into sugars which are used by the body’s cells for energy. Your children are very active – constantly moving, talking and learning – and they need a lot of energy to fuel their day. They are still growing and even when they are at rest their body is working hard to make them bigger and stronger, and that takes energy too.
Did you know that 10% of a child’s energy comes from eating a protein-rich diet? At Crystal House Kindergarten many kids love playing sports, we make sure they are consuming the required amounts of proteins every day. Children need more energy and protein provides a good amount of energy to your kids. When carbohydrates are not present, it is the protein that provides energy to your children’s bodies.
Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins, minerals and fibre. Kids should be encouraged to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables – there is a rainbow of colours to choose from – which provides a rich source of antioxidants, instead of sugary snacks and fast food, which are high in fat and sugar.
